As a countermeasure against Corona virus epidemic, Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) will provide financial assistance to professional runners.
The Federation of Athletics Lesotho Spokesperson Mr Sejanamane Maphathe confirmed to News4u Sport on Thursday that the Commission ordered them collect list of athletes whose lives depend on running.
” Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission told us to compile a list of our athletes who will be assisted financially in this time as all competitions have been put on hold because of corona virus outbreak,” Maphathe said.
“This is painful because these athletes earn their living on competitions locally and internationally, but competitions have been suspended because of COVID-19,” he said. he said he was optimistic that these athletes will secure funding in this dark period.
Maphathe told News4u Sport that they are also expecting funding from IAAF for this year for federation’s administration and local competition activities.
He said three athletes, Tšepang Sello, Lerato Sechele and Mosito Lehata who are under Olympic solidarity sponsorship will be covered until after 2021 Olympic games to be held in Japan.
Maphathe said other three athletes Motlokoa Nkhabutlane, Seutloali Khoarahlana and ‘Neheng Khathala are under Athletic fund.
