Undisclosed number of national team players on were caught on CCTV cameras smoking marijuana, stealing while at a hotel in Mozambique during their friendly matches against the host and Eswatini.
This was revealed today by the coach Thabo Senong and Team Manager Lehlohonolo Matlosa at a press conference. The duo refused to release the names of the culprits to the media save Matlama Football Club player Thabo Matšoele and Bantu FC players Tšoanelo Koetle.
The two were named and shamed because the coach and manager believed their blunders were worthy of public knowledge.
Matšoele was found out to have stolen M1,400 ($100) from the team managers room. he later returned it upon confrontation and CCTV footage evidence by the hotel manager.
Koetle was named as a repeat offender whose inclusion in the squad was due to the public outcry.
Despite attempts by the media pushing them to reveal names, the coach said he would be violating coaches’ ethics.
Lesotho was thrashed 5 – 0 by Mozambique and 1 – 0 by Eswatini.
