Lesotho roll out Johnson and Johnson Vaccine
BEREA ROLLS OUT J&J
Maseru, Aug. 03 – The Ministry of Health will start administration of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 in Berea District from Monday until Friday next week.
According to the report from National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC), the rollout, which will take place at clinics, area chiefs and churches amongst others will be administered to patients of high blood pressure, sugar diabetes, TB, HIV, asthma, cancer, heart related illnesses and elderly people who are 60 years and above.
Similar vaccinations are underway in Leribe district and are reported to be running smoothly since they commenced on Monday, yesterday.
Earlier in an interview, NACOSEC Communications and Publicity Manager Mrs. ‘Mateboho Mosebekoa said that an announcement regarding vaccination of frontlines who did not manage to vaccinate during the first phase of the roll out will be released at dates yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, the Director of Family Health Dr. ‘Makhoase Ranyali said that the newly received Johnson and Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine will be distributed regionally within the country.
She said that the vaccine is going to be distributed within the districts of Maseru, Berea, Leribe and Botha-Bothe to ensure that all eligible people within the said districts receive the jab, thereafter it will be distributed to other remaining districts.
She also explained that everyone is eligible to get vaccine as long as they are aged 18 and above saying however that they have to start with people who are at more risk of contracting the virus
Lesotho received consignment of about 302,400 doses of Johnson and Johnson a few days ago from the United States of America.
