MOTORISTS RUSH TO FILLING STATIONS
Maseru, July 14 – Motorists were seen on long queues at filling stations within Maseru city on Wednesday afternoon in fear of fuel shortage due to ongoing riots in South Africa (SA).
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, one of the motorists, Mr. Thabiso Lefa said he does not want to wait for rainy days as the prevailing situation in South Africa will not end anytime soon.
He said they have seen press releases trending on social media from some petroleum companies based in SA which indicate that they had stopped supply of petroleum due to riots.
‘’We cannot risk running out of fuel yet we still have chance to purchase it “he said.
On the other hand, Mrs. ‘Maphoka Ralenkoe said she cannot survive without paraffin due to the prevailing weather conditions in the country.
She also said fuel is part of life as people cannot carry out their daily activities without it thus they will not take chances.
Efforts to talk to Petroleum Fund management about how distribution of petroleum in the country might be affected due to the prevailing situation in SA were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile a statement from Puma Energy South Africa, which has been trending on social media indicates that the company has informed its customers of supply constraints experienced due to the widespread riots and protests across South Africa.
It points out that all its suppliers as well as its Richards Bay terminal have stopped supply and transporters have grounded their vehicles.
The South African protests began in Kwazulu Natal after the former President Jabob Zuma entered the Estcourt Correctional facility last week Wednesday, to serve a 15 month sentence imposed by the Constitutional Court for contempt of court.
This followed Zuma’s failure to appear before the Zondo Commission of Enquiry when ordered to do so. The protesters engaged on what they call #freeJocob Zuma from prison and protests have spread to other provinces.
