Prime Minister in Court
The historic case where the sitting Prime Minister Tom Thabane appears in court for murder was postponed after his lawyer Advocate Qhalehang Letsika questioned the jurisdiction of the court to preside over him.
Adv. Letsika’s argued that the sitting Prime Minister cannot be accused like the King according to the law. He asked the Judge Phithise Motanyane to send this case to the constitutional court for a way forward. His argument may have blindsided the state represented by Advocate Noosi Motšoane as there was no objection about that. The case was duly referred to the constitutional court.
The prime Minister was not charged. He was accompanied by his wife ‘Maesaiah Thabane, who is accused of murder and attempted murder in the same case. Several ministers accompanied the Prime Minister.
