Senong to announce Likuena squad
SENONG TO ANNOUNCE LIKUENA PLAYERS
Maseru, Sept. 20 –- Lesotho’s senior national soccer Likuena head coach, Mr. Thabo Senong is expected to announce players on Monday, who will don the national team colours in the back to back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin later this year.
The new players will be announced at the media briefing to be held at Bambatha Tsita Sports Arena on Monday.
Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Media Officer, Mr. Mikia Kalati said the announcement of the players will be made by the head coach himself in the presence of the media.
“Mr. Thabo Senong will be announcing the Likuena squad to begin preparations for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back matches against Benin,” he explained.
He said the announcement will be preceded by the official opening of the Premier league refresher course to take place at LeFA headquarters on the same day.
Mr. Senong is likely to retain the same squad which earlier this year played two matches against Sierra Leone in a one all draw away, before being whipped 4-2 at home by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The Pimville born Likuena coach is likely to have headache for the selection considering that the domestic league has been inactive since March this year due to the coronations pandemic.
Besides a few who are South African based players with the likes of Tumelo Khutlang who plies his soccer trade with Black Leopards which he helped to avoid relegation.
Black Leopards FC was involved in the relegation and promotion play-off after finishing last soccer season on 15th spot.
However, Leopards managed to win all the three matches against TTM and Ajax Cape Town to ensure that they retain their elite league status next soccer season that kicks off on October 09 this year.
Another local player, Motebang Sera who made sure that Bloemfontein Celtic reach the Nedbank Cup final, will be among the first players coach Senong would like to have in the list for Likuena.
