VILLAGE POPE DIES
Maseru, July 15 — The Legendary musician and songwriter Tšepos Tšola affectionately called the Village Pope has passed away aged 68.
It is reported that he died after being admitted to hospital for COVID-19 related complications.
His songs include his 1994 classic ‘Ho Lokile’ and the song ‘Madambadamba’ with Sankomota
Meanwhile in an interview with News24 his fellow musician, Mzwakhe Mbuli said the music icon passed away in his home country (Lesotho) early on Thursday.
“He died in Lesotho this morning. We got confirmation from his aunt who is in Lesotho that he died around 6am.”
“We are told that he was fine just a few weeks ago. He even attended the funeral of a close family member in Lesotho,” Mbuli said.
Born in 1953 in Teyateyaneng Berea in Lesotho, he grew up in a musical family with both his parents and was once a member of Sankomota band.
