Too early to cancel leagues – LEFA
While Coronavirus pandemic is taking momentum across the globe, countries now are under restriction to minimise the infection, Lesotho is not exception to fight this pandemic.
News4u Sport team contacted the office of Lesotho Football Association to find out what will happen if government extends the national lockdown, the office of Secretary General said the country’s football governing body is monitoring the situation at the moment and it is too early to cancel the league games.
The option the association is eyeing is to delay the senior and lower division of football for clubs to finish their matches and award trophies to the winners, relegate those who will close the league at the bottom of the logs.
There are other B division playoffs that should have been completed at the end of April or May this year, but they are put on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The office confirmed that they are in consultation with mother body FIFA to contemplate the impact of the pandemic. But so far there are no talks between Premier League Management Committee and Association and A Division Management Committee to discuss the future of football in the country.
Bantu FC is topping the elite league by 50 points after 18 matches while in the Lesotho Post Bank League, Northern Stream is led by CCX FC while Manonyane FC is topping the Southern Stream table.
